Fifi Rong - The Same Road

Hot on the heels of her triumphant SXSW 2017 appearances (including one packed-out show at the British Music Embassy showcase which we were fortunate enough to attend), London-based DIY artist and producer Fifi Rong returns with her brand new single entitled "The Same Road", the follow-up to the acclaimed "Future Never Comes", released late last year.

With strong support from publications such as The Fader, Clash, Notion and the 405, as well as BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music airplay, Fifi Rong has clearly entered the mainstream consciousness. Developing her own brand of "hybrid electronica" completely independently, Rong's celebrated collaboration work includes contributions to Skepta's Mercury Award-winning Konnichiwa, Tricky's False Idols and electro legends Yello's new album, Toy.

"The Same Road" was mixed by Max Dingel who has previously worked with Goldfrapp, The Killers, White Lies and Muse amongst others. It represents a departure from the leftfield soundscapes Rong is normally associated with. Taking her cue from 80s synth pop, she proves that, even though some of her inspirations might be decades-old and familiar, her productions continue to sound oddly futuristic, dark, unique and dangerous. So don't be fooled by the apparently upbeat nature of the song.

"There is a world inside my solitude, which has been a blessing and a curse," Fifi says. "'The Same Road' falls into one of my recurring themes of such inherent paradox and emotional cocktail of vulnerability and strengths. There is a stark contrast between musically driven, upbeat energy and heavier lyrical content, reflecting my inner resistance of moving 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, and the determination to break through negative cycles."

"The Same Road" will be released on June 16th via AWAL.
